Why Mexico is amazing for motorcycle riders

Mexico is a magical place for motorcycle travellers, and as a solo female rider, I can say confidently that if you put your trust in Mexico, it will put its trust in you.

In 2019, with an existing long-standing relationship with Mexico, I decided to get my motorcycle license with the sole purpose of riding to and through this spectacular country, starting from Vancouver, BC.

This would be the beginning of my deep motorcycle relationship with this part of the world. The more I travelled, the more I realized I hadn’t scratched the surface of this incredibly diverse country. I’ve ridden back and forth between Mexico and Canada 6 times now, and there are still roads to ride!

Mexico is a land of breathtaking beauty, featuring stunning beaches, high mountains, deep canyons, vast deserts, lush jungles, and ancient pyramids. The people are as diverse as the landscape, and the food, oh the food... it’s incredible.

Mexico is a country where I’ve learned to live in the moment, and engage with locals- and there are sooo many to engage with! Unlike the US and Canada, where you can ride for days without passing anyone. Here, you’ll find people who are warm, curious, and helpful.

In Mexico, even in the most unexpected places, you’ll stumble upon small villages perched on cliffs above the clouds, or nestled in brackish mangrove waters alongside flamingos and crocodiles. And to top it off, it’s also easy on the wallet if you play your cards right.

The challenge when riding in Mexico is that the diversity of options is huge across different socio-economic levels. Meaning you can find great cheap options, terrible cheap things, high-quality expensive things, and disappointing expensive things. Finding the hidden gems can be tricky. But that’s why I’m here! If I don’t have the answer, I can at least help you wade through the options to uncover where the gems are! Asking locals doesn’t always work, as they will likely send you to the overly tourist spots, assuming that’s what you’re looking for. If that’s not your vibe, you’re in the right place!

When I travel, I seek local experiences that are magical, beautiful and delicious! After so many years of travelling here, I have a pretty good barometer for these things, and I’m excited to share them with you.

About Me

I first rolled into Mexico in 2001, crossing the border by car and catching the bug for the open road. A few years later, I lived in San José del Cabo for a year, then road-tripped my way across the country until, in 2019, I found my true ride: exploring Mexico by motorcycle. Since then, I’ve clocked over 55,000 km through mountains, deserts, jungles, and coasts, and have still only scratched the surface. Now I call Mérida, Yucatán my part-time base, where I’m opening a coworking space for digital nomads when I’m not chasing tacos, dodging topes, and finding the next great ride.
