Exiting Mexico: How to Cancel Your TVIP (and Get Your Deposit Back)

Canceling your Mexico TVIP is the last, crucial step before you roll north. Do it right and you’ll get your deposit back—do it wrong and you could lose it, or end up blocked from future permits. This guide shows you exactly where to cancel (with the latest Banjercito IITV list), what to expect at the border, and the small details that trip people up, like limited office hours and locations that don’t process returns. I’ll also share which crossings feel calmer after thousands of miles on two wheels. Bring your documents, confirm the hours, and let’s make your exit smooth and stress-free.
Finding the Right Exit to Get Your Refund
Finding a Banjercito that actually cancels your TIP and gives you your deposit back shouldn’t be this confusing, but here we are. A Google Map search for "Banjercito" is not your best friend in this case, it’ll happily send you to the wrong building, a closed office, or some random Aduana checkpoint that just shrugs and points vaguely “over there.” I've taken the liberty of creating a Google Map with the actual locations pulled from the government's official list (minus 4, which may be a barber shop or daycare, to keep things interesting).
Not all border crossings are created equal. Some are quiet and efficient; others are pure chaos. My personal favourites for a stress-free exit are Yuma, Arizona; Douglas, Arizona; and Presidio, Texas. They’re small, calm, and the staff usually know what they’re doing.
As for the ones I avoid? Tijuana, Mexicali, Nogales, Ciudad Juárez, Laredo, and Reynosa. You’ll spend more time idling in line than it took you to ride half of Baja. If you enjoy sweating in traffic while juggling paperwork and exhaust fumes, be my guest, but I’ll take a sleepy crossing any day.

Some Border Crossings That Handle TIP Cancellations
Baja California Border Crossings (Tijuana Area)
San Ysidro (Puerta México) – Banjercito office available for cancellations.
Otay Mesa – Includes a Banjercito module close to the crossing, ideal for TIP return.
Tecate – This crossing has a Banjercito office for cancellations.
Sonora & Arizona Crossings
Nogales to Mariposa – Aduana and Banjercito offices located about 21 km south of the crossing; this is where you can cancel your TIP.
Naco, Douglas to Agua Prieta, Lukeville to Sonoyta – All have Banjercito modules for TIP cancellation
Chihuahua / New Mexico
Most crossings between New Mexico and Chihuahua include Banjercito services. Cancellation of TIP is possible at these locations.
Texas Border Crossings
Numerous crossings across Texas, such as those near Laredo, Eagle Pass, Brownsville, and other, have Banjercito offices where TIPs can be cancelled.
Southeast Border Crossings
Matamoros (Puente Nuevo) has a Banjercito office handling TIP cancellations.
